Recommendation for Cleaning and Disinfecting Dispenser Equipment – COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus)

As published in the Dover Fueling Solutions Newsletter published on March 30th, 2020...
Dover Fueling Solutions (DFS) recognizes the importance of protecting the health and well-being of those who use our dispensers from infectious diseases such as COVID-19 (novel coronavirus). For high touch areas, such as displays, keypads, card readers, grade select buttons and nozzles, the CDC recommends both cleaning and disinfecting these surfaces. Please refer to the Wayne Installation and Operation manual for the necessary Level 1 cleaning procedure for the dispenser components.
After cleaning, the elements should be disinfected by gently wiping (DO NOT spray) the hard, nonporous surfaces of the device, paying careful attention to the display, keypad and other exterior surfaces that might be touched. The disinfectant should be left on the surface for up to 5 minutes (depending on the disinfectant). DFS recommends pH balanced surfactant and disinfectant solutions, applied after cleaning. The CDC also references EPA’s list of approved disinfectants (https://www.epa.gov/pesticide-registration/list-n-disinfectants-use-against-sars-cov-2).
Alcohols (typically solutions of 70% alcohol and 30% water) can be very effective when used as a disinfectant, but care should be taken when using these on some plastic surfaces. DFS does not recommend the use of bleach on the dispenser as this can be harmful to metals and potentially unsafe if mixed with other chemicals.
